About Onkarbir Singh Toor

Onkarbir Singh Toor, 34, son of Dr. Dalvinder Singh Toor and Dr. Parminder Toor, and brother of Dr. Harshbir Toor, passed away on November 16, 2016.

Onkarbir was born in India on January 12, 1982. He was raised by his grandparents, Sohan Singh Toor and Surjit Kaur Toor, in the village of Wajuha Khurd, Punjab. He attended Apeejay School, Jalandhar. Onkarbir loved UBC, and used to visit the campus even on off days. He aspired to teach at UBC.

Onkarbir graduated from UBC in 2016 with a Bachelor of Science. His family has established the Onkarbir Singh Toor Memorial Punjabi Studies Enhancement Endowment Fund in his memory, and we invite members of the community to support the Punjabi Studies program by giving to the fund’s endowment.

The impact of your support

One of the highlights of Onkarbir’s time at UBC was taking the Punjabi Oral History program. The Onkarbir Singh Toor Memorial Punjabi Studies Enhancement Endowment Fund ensures that future generations of students will continue to benefit from Punjabi studies at UBC, and are able to more fully explore Punjabi language, history and culture.

Your gift will help provide opportunities and support for undergraduate and graduate students in the Punjabi Studies program through community outreach activities, curriculum enhancements, and assistance with pursuing other learning experiences.
